Cameroon - telephony: 73,000 subscribers suspended by ART
According to Bekono Mengang, ART's Technical Director, who reviewed the progress of the identification of mobile phone subscribers in Cameroon. Thus, in the first quarter, according to the database control of MTN, Orange and Nexttel carried out by ART:
- Â 21,952 million subscribers are formally identified.Â
- Â 73,000 subscribers belonging to the telecom operators MTN, Orange and Nexttel Cameroon have been suspended by the Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ART).
- Â 783,000 non-compliant numbers are still active in Cameroon.Â
As a result of this control, Orange, MTN and Nexttel were fined CFAF 1.5 billion on July 3, 2019 for breaches related to the identification of their subscribers.
