Innovation week in Cameroon: digital sector
Cameroon's Innovation Week ended last Friday, June 28, 2019, with the awards ceremony for the country's best ICT projects. Of the 15 pre-selected projects, it is the Agrix Tech team, represented by Mariben Chiato and Dorothée Mvondo, co-founders of Agrix Tech, who won the special prize of the President of the Republic, Paul Biya, in the digital sector.
These two co-founders were able, during their two pitchs, to convince the jury of the importance of their application for farmers. Agrix Tech is indeed an application, which, thanks to its integrated artificial intelligence, allows farmers, with the help of a photo of the diseased plant, to know what disease the plant is suffering from and, above all, how to eradicate the disease and which product to use to do so. This is done in writing and by a voice in the local language. Â
According to the co-founders' explanations, once you open the application that works even without the Internet, you choose the local language that suits you and the type of culture you have. For the moment, data are available for tomato cultivation in pidgin. But, several plants as well as several languages can be integrated.
Then it is enough for the farmer to photograph the diseased plant and the AI integrated into the application will instantly, through the hundreds of data and photos already integrated into the application, diagnose the disease of the plant and tell you what it is suffering from, the type of appropriate treatment and even the type of fertilizer to use to boost your plantation. The application allows illiterate farmers to listen to these recommendations and advice in their local language.
