Cameroon - Digital: Digital transformation at the heart of a discussion

An exchange between Minpostel Minette Libom Li Likeng, Léon Juste Ibombo (Minister of Posts and Telecommunications and Digital School of the Republic of Congo), 800 participants, and many others took place via videoconference on August 6.

On August 6, a webinar on the theme "Digital Transformation of States : the digital catalyst for growth and progress in Africa", enabled 800 participants to be interviewed by Minette Libom Li Likeng (Minister of Posts and Telecommunications), Léon Juste Ibombo (Minister of Posts and Telecommunications and Digital School of the Republic of Congo), Laciné Koné (Managing Director of Smart Africa), Loise Tamalgo (Vice President of Public Relations in Sub-Saharan Africa for Huawei) and Jean-Noël Georges CEO JNG Expert the moderator. For 1 hour and a half, the panelists and the 800 participants discussed the issues and problems of the digitalization of states in Africa.

Minette Libom Li Likeng took the opportunity to discuss the digital situation in Cameroon by indicating the progress made in recent years. According to what Minpostel said, thanks to the partnership with Huawei, 2000 km of fiber optics have been laid across the country, with urban loops in the 58 departments, and four submarine cables have been installed to facilitate access to the Internet and all related services. The member of the Government also mentioned the strategic plan for the development of digital technology, which is the real compass for government action, the reduction of Internet communication rates by about 50% between 2018 and 2019, support for start-ups through various projects, the existence of Datacenters and the reduction of the digital bill through various training modules for young people. The Minister thus praised Huawei for all its efforts, particularly for two projects: ICT Academy and Seeds for The Future.

According to all stakeholders present, the known actions would be beneficial to all African states. This is the opinion of Minette Libom Li likeng who said that "Cooperation is inevitable". Idem for Lacina Koné who believes that if "Africa does not embrace the 4th revolution, it will be colonized."
