As of October 1, 2020, Facebook will impose on its subscribers the VAT of 19.25% on the sale of advertising in Cameroon.

Major evolution in the invoicing of Facebook ads in Cameroon. As of October 1, 2020, all advertisers whose commercial country is Cameroon will have to pay an additional 19.25% VAT on purchased advertising services. 19.25% being the percentage of the value added tax applicable in Cameroon.

Mark Zuckerberg's company has informed Cameroonian subscribers and advertisers of this change via an email sent on September 17, 2020. Facebook also indicates that all advertisers and subscribers requesting advertising services are not obliged to enter a Cameroonian tax identification number.

"However, if you are registered for VAT and provide your tax identification number, your tax identification number will appear on your ad receipts. This can help you recover the VAT you paid to the Cameroonian tax authorities if you are a VAT-registered business in Cameroon," says the Facebook Business team.

According to Facebook, VAT will be added each time a customer is charged for ads purchased for business or personal use. "Because VAT is added on top of fees, you won't reach your billing threshold faster, but you may be charged more than your billing threshold. If you pay for Facebook Ads with a prepaid payment method, VAT is charged at the applicable rate when your ad account is funded to determine the total available balance," as stated on Facebook's website.

To add their tax ID number to their Facebook advertising account, subscribers and advertisers are invited to access their account settings and scroll down to the field titled "VAT ID Number" where that number can be added.
