With its Digital Caravan, African WITS wants to train 500 young girls on the issues of Cybersecurity during the Digital Woman Festival 2021.

 

On the sidelines of the celebration of the International Women's Rights Day, the association African Women In Tech Startups in Cameroon is organizing the third edition of the Digital Woman Festival to be held from 04 to 08 March 2021 under the theme: ''Digital and Women's Leadership: Achieving an equal future in a covid-19 world''.

Several online and face-to-face activities are on the program. And among the flagship activities of this festival, there is this digital caravan in universities and schools in Cameroon.

"As part of the face-to-face activities, it will be a digital caravan for girls in universities in Cameroon and for this edition we chose four cities (Yaoundé, Douala, Buea, Ngaoundéré). The Digital Caravan will be in Yaounde (at SUPT'TIC) on March 05, in Buea (Catholic university institute of Buea) on March 04, in Ngaoundéré (ICT Development Center of the University of Ngaoundéré) from March 04 to 05 and finally in Douala (ENSET Douala) on March 08. Our goal is to educate about 500 young girls in these universities on the opportunities of digital opportunities and the challenges of cyber security," explains to Digital Business Africa HORORE BELL BEBGA, the president of African Women In Tech Startups.

Covid-19 and digital

The Festival Femme Numérique is also online conferences on themes such as "Covid-19 and digital: what are the challenges for women in Francophone Africa? "Connectivity - Innovative approaches to promote universal access to the Internet among women in a covid-19 world", "Digital financial services - Strengthening access to the digital economy for women for those who have a bank account and those who do not" or "e.Trade for women: opportunities for women in Francophone Africa".

Boost with Facebook

The FFN is also an opportunity for women and girls to benefit from digital training. For this third edition, online training for women in Cameroon and Africa are planned for four days. Partners and experts will therefore conduct training workshops for women entrepreneurs. With workshops such as "Boost with Facebook powered by Facebook" or "Introduction to Cybersecurity".

The main objective of the Festival Femme numérique (FFNUM) is to contribute to the reduction of the gender digital divide in Cameroon and other French-speaking African countries by facilitating women and girls' access to new information and communication technologies, particularly digital technology.

For this third edition, the FFNUM is committed to strengthening the capacities of women and girls in the digital world to seize opportunities in a Covid-19 world; to sensitize and equip young girls in universities and schools to the opportunities and challenges of digital technology in order to increase their employability and their professional integration within companies and finally to participate in the inclusion of women and girls in the digital world in Cameroon and Francophone Africa.
