As TENAA has just confirmed, the iPhone 12 Pro Max is indeed equipped with a 3,687 mAh battery. The brand's detractors will be able to have a field day.

Last week, Apple presented its new collection of high-end smartphones. The collection is finally based on four different models: iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

The iPhone 12 Pro Max is the most expensive of all, but also the largest and is therefore also the smartphone with the largest battery.

The iPhone 12 Pro Max will not shine because of its battery capacity.

However, according to TENAA, the battery in question is ultimately quite disappointing. Its capacity would be limited to 3,687mAh and is therefore far from what many Android smartphones are now offering. Smartphones that are, however, sometimes thinner and more compact.

This may come as a surprise, but in reality it's no surprise at all. The iPhone 12 Pro Max goes quite far in the field of photography by offering a larger than normal main sensor and a stabilisation system for one of the two other sensors. These components take up space and it was logical that this would affect the phone's battery capacity.

Now, and even if iOS 14 is a fairly well optimized platform, at least in the main lines, it should be remembered that the iPhone 12 will also have the particularity of being compatible with the 5G. A 5G that uses a lot of energy and risks drawing massively on their battery.

A problem of autonomy in sight?

Apple, for its part, has anticipated the problems by integrating into its new smartphones an intelligent technology capable of automatically switching to 4G or 5G depending on the use made of its devices.

In concrete terms, if you visit a site, your iPhone 12 will switch itself to a 4G connection to save energy. On the other hand, if you start playing a video, it will switch to a 5G connection.

It remains to be seen whether this technology will be sufficient to preserve the autonomy of the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Initial feedback from the testers suggests the opposite, at least on the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro, but we still lack the hindsight to be able to judge their autonomy.
