The Gabonese Agency for Digital Infrastructures and Frequencies (Aninf) announced on 18 November, the end of the extension works of 528 km of optical fibre linking Bouée in the north of Gabon to physical interconnections in Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea via Bitam & Oyan-Bifoun-Lambarene. This is within the framework of the Central Africa Backbone (CAB4) project.

Aninf indicates that the next stage of CAB4 will be the operational commissioning of the link which will enable the populations of Gabonese cities and the two other countries to benefit from good quality broadband Internet services. To this end, the project of interconnection of Cameroon with its neighbours in the sub-region through optical fibre was included in the 11 integrative projects that the Community presented during a round table on 16 and 17 November in Paris, France.

The CAB4 will make it possible to interconnect CEMAC member countries in a high-speed telecommunications network as recommended by the Heads of State of the sub-region since 2016. This project is designed to increase the capacity, quality and competitive pricing of telecommunications services in the Community area. The main donors are the African Development Bank and the World Bank.
