3 tips for creating an effective password

As we all know, the Internet is an "insecure" place with all kinds of malware attacks (malware, spyware, Trojan horses, phishing, etc.).  Through online applications, websites, we can be hacked via social networks (Facebook) or via our credit card.  Personal information are so attractive to hackers as it is to companies seeking information on their targets. To protect yourself from threats and to protect your personal information, the password is generally the protection used.

However, many of us still make the mistake of using passwords that are easy to guess and that expose us to hacking. Here are some tips on how to make your password strong.

1. Alternate letters, numbers and special characters

You should definitely avoid using strings such as "1234" or your birth date as these are easy to crack. Commonly used dictionary terms such as "google" or "mom" should only be used on pages where your security is not at stake.

Some software has the ability to test these words to find out what the password is. That's why it's important to create a password with upper and lower case, letters and numbers.

2. Use a long password

One more time, very short passwords do not help to strengthen security. If you are going to follow the previous tip, then you need at least 8 characters to make your password effective.

Some websites indicate the strength of your password : weak, medium, strong. Otherwise, they may require users to place at least one number and one special character (e.g. !, /) among the eight characters required when creating an account on their page. You can go up to 12 characters or more if you wish.

3. Create different passwords

If you use the same password for all your accounts, you are putting yourself at risk. You can create different passwords depending on the use you make of a website and classify, for example, the sites on which you will use unique or similar passwords. For your online purchases or other financial transactions, take care to change your passwords and choose codes that will be easy to remember on a daily basis.

So let your imagination run wild and protect yourself as much as possible !
