Kenya accelerates its digital transformation thanks to tech giants
Kenya is positioning itself as a technology hub in Africa. The government, determined to speed up the country's digital transformation, is stepping up its partnerships with the world's leading technology companies. Recently, the Kenyan authorities hosted Amazon Web Services (AWS) to discuss joint projects.
These collaborations aim to strengthen the digital skills of Kenyans, create new jobs in the digital sector and optimise public services. Kenya's state and AWS have discussed on how technology could support the country's economic transformation programme.
These initiative is part of a wider dynamic : at the end of October, Kenya announced a new partnership with Google to strengthen its digital infrastructure.
These massive investments by tech giants in Africa, and Kenya in particular, are motivated by the market's growth potential. Amazon, for example, has announced an additional investment of 1.7 billion dollars to develop its cloud and artificial intelligence services on the continent.
The stakes are high. According to a GSMA study, digital transformation could generate more than $5 billion in additional GDP for Kenya by 2028. These figures illustrate the strategic importance of these partnerships for the development of Kenya.
