Cameroon: MTN Group announces the end of the mission of Hendrik Kasteel, the current CEO
MTN Group announces the end of the mission of Hendrik Kasteel, the Dutchman appointed in September 2018. "The Managing Director of MTN Cameroon, Hendrik Kasteel, will leave MTN at the end of March for personal reasons. He will give notice over the next two months and a successor will be announced once the appointment is finalised," says Rob Shuter, the head of the South African group.
Former CEO of MTN Cameroon and current MTN Group Vice President for the West and Central Africa Region (WECA), Karl Toriola says that "we will miss Hendrik's pragmatism very much". "The company respects the decision he made for family reasons. At the same time as we thank him for the key role he has played in the good performance of MTN Cameroon, we wish him success in his future endeavours," he adds.
The CEO of MTN Cameroon will have served barely a year at the head of an institution that needs stability. At his presentation in February 2019, Colin Mukete, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the operator had indicated that "he will be responsible for keeping MTN Cameroon on the path of growth and strengthening the company's leading position in the Cameroonian telecommunications market where competition is increasingly intense". Hendrik Kasteel has a rich career of over 20 years in the telecom industry. The announcement of his future resignation and the laconic way in which it was done, raises many questions about his relationship with the MTN Group.
