Windows 10: Microsoft significantly reduces the size of monthly updates

Microsoft recently announced a significant reduction in the size of Windows 10 monthly updates, in the same way as for Windows 11, starting with version 22H2.

Starting with the April 23, 2024 release (KB5036979), the size of the monthly package of the latest cumulative update (LCU) will be significantly reduced, from 830 MB to around 650 MB, a reduction of 20%.

This action aims to increase efficiency by eliminating LCU inversion differentials, resulting in reduced bandwidth usage, faster downloads and improved performance, especially on slow connections.

Update KB5036979 also introduces Microsoft account notifications in Settings > Home; offering alerts on account activity, data backups, subscription management and security settings.

In addition, widgets on the lock screen have been enhanced to offer a more pleasing visual experience, while correcting Bluetooth stability issues with wireless headsets and improving the reliability of Windows search.
