TRAFFIC is recruiting a Senior Regional Director for Africa

TRAFFIC is a non-governmental organisation that works to ensure that the global wildlife trade is legal and sustainable, in the interests of the planet and its people. Its aim is to combat environmental degradation by supporting respect for biodiversity.

TRAFFIC has grown significantly in recent years, and its new 2030 strategy sets out an ambitious vision for considerable impact. The NGO is currently looking for a Senior Regional Director for Africa.

 

 

The role is to provide overall strategic leadership and direction to the work in Africa. This includes overseeing the TRAFFIC offices for Southern Africa (South Africa), East Africa (Tanzania), and Central Africa (Cameroon).

Job requirements

The ideal candidate will have :

- A university degree and preferably a postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline.

- A minimum of 10 years' professional experience in Africa at a senior level in nature conservation, sustainable development, intergovernmental processes, policy dialogue, public-private partnerships and all issues related to wildlife conservation, use and trade.

- A good understanding of the socio-political context and development aspirations of the region

- Excellent strategic planning, project management and partnership development skills, with significant examples of generating impact and influence in the field of nature conservation in Africa.

- High-level representation skills with strong diplomatic, political, intercultural and interpersonal skills.

- Proven ability to exercise mission-focused leadership: build powerful collaborations, be authentic and build trust, be a continuous learner and a deep listener.

- Proven ability to manage, coach and lead a team of people with diverse skills, personalities and backgrounds, and strong experience of delegation and empowerment.

- High-level English language skills; working knowledge of at least one other regional language is desirable.

- Significant experience in fundraising with regional and international donors.

- Demonstrated commitment to TRAFFIC's mission and values.
