The Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP) held its 11th Governing Council meeting 

The 11th meeting of the CBFP Governing Council was held in Yaoundé (Cameroon) on 12 July. This meeting was of the utmost importance, as the roadmap of the Franco-Gabonese Facilitation of the group had to be presented to the members of the CBFP Governing Council.

The meeting was held after the handover ceremony between the Federal Republic of Germany and the France-Gabon duo, which had been announced at the 19th meeting of the parties to the Congo Basin Forest Partnership, held from 05 to 08 July 2022 in Libreville (Gabon). 

It was co-chaired by :
- Christophe Guilhou, CBFP Facilitator, Director of Sustainable Development, Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs (France),
- Ghislain Moussavou, CBFP Facilitator, Director General of Forests, Ministry of Water, Forests, the Sea and the Environment in charge of the Climate Plan and the Land Use Plan (Gabon),
- Pr Sanctus Niragira, Minister for the Environment, Agriculture and Livestock (Burundi) and current President of COMIFAC, represented by Dr Hervé Maidou, Executive Secretary of COMIFAC.

 

 

This session provided an opportunity to present the results of the German CBFP Facilitation (2020-2022), those of the Fair Deal Task Force, and the actions and solutions for implementing the Ndjamena Declaration on transhumance. The members of the CBFP Governing Council then heard a presentation of the CBFP's Franco-Gabonese Facilitation Roadmap, which focuses on 05 main areas : 

  • Axis 1: dialogue and scientific cooperation on the forests of the Congo Basin, 
    Axis 2: land-use planning and sustainable value chains,
    Axis 3: the development of innovative financing mechanisms, 
    Axis 4: the visibility of the Congo Basin at international level,
    Axis 5: dialogue and synergies with CBFP partners, in particular China and the Central African Forest Initiative (CAFI).
