Rome, Italy - 23 July 2024 - The forestry world gathered yesterday in Rome for the opening of the 27th session of the Committee on Forestry (COFO), organised by the FAO. The session, which runs from 22 to 26 July, brings together key players in the forestry sector, including high-level representatives, heads of forestry services, government officials and partner organisations.

Focus on the future of forests

Participants will examine the state of the world's forests in 2024, exploring new political and technical directions to strengthen sustainable forest management. The aim is to promote innovative approaches that preserve forests while meeting the social and economic needs of communities.

A major issue : the links between agriculture and forests

One of the key items on the agenda will be an analysis of the links between agriculture and forests. Participants will discuss how these two sectors can be better integrated to maximise the benefits for people and the environment.

The 27th session of COFO is taking place against a global backdrop of urgent challenges linked to climate change, biodiversity loss and food security.
