PS5 remains the best-selling PlayStation, surpassing 10 million units sold

Even with a hardware shortage, the PlayStation 5 has broken sales records for Sony. Sony has now sold over 10 million PS5 consoles. That number represents an increase of more than 2 million sales from the 7.8 million Sony announced in April, and means that the PS5 continues to outpace PS4 sales, making it the fastest-selling console in Sony's history.

The PS5 may be selling well, but supply is limited and it's still difficult to buy a console right now due to a global chip shortage.

"I can't express enough the deep gratitude we have for our passionate community of PlayStation fans who have embraced the PS5, and for the world-class development and publishing partners who bring such incredible gaming experiences to our platforms," said Jim Ryan, president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment.

"While the PS5 has reached more homes faster than any of our previous consoles, we still have a lot of work ahead of us as demand for the PS5 continues to outpace supply. I want gamers to know that while we continue to face unique challenges around the world that affect our industry and many others, improving inventory levels remains a top priority for EIS."

Sony also shared some milestones around the PS5's launch titles. Spider-Man: Miles Morales has sold more than 6.5 million copies since its November launch, while Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart has sold more than 1.1 million copies since its launch last month. Returnal has also sold more than 560,000 copies since its launch in April.
