It's the end of free for Google G Suite account holders: they will see them closed if they don't upgrade to the paid version by May 2022

According to an announcement released by Google, users have until May 2022 to pay for their subscription and upgrade to the next version of G Suite:

"To keep your services and accounts, review the information below and upgrade to a higher edition by May 1, 2022. The transition to Google Workspace takes just a few steps and causes no disruption to your users. Once the process is complete, you can use your new subscription at no cost until at least July 1, 2022."

Starting May 1, 2022, user accounts will automatically switch to the paid edition if Google has billing information for each account. If no such information is available, in July, accounts will be suspended. After 60 days, these accounts will lose access to "essential" Google services, such as Gmail and Calendar.

What is G Suite?

G Suite is a package of applications designed for businesses and available under subscription from 6 dollars per user per month. It includes basic modules such as word processing, spreadsheet, viewer among others with higher levels for people with greater storage needs.

In addition, G Suite offers a complete office suite, with the advantage that its software can be used from any medium i.e. tablet, cell phone, computer. They are also accessible in mobile mode thanks to the cloud

For all these services, between 2006 and 2012, the basic level was free. Now users who have subscribed to the basic service are required to subscribe or else transfer their data to other accounts or personalized domains. Google doesn't really give them a choice.

What about you, are you affected by this measure? Do you think Microsoft 365 is a solid alternative to G Suite?
