iPhone iOS 14: The Five New Features of Apple's Operating System

On Monday, June 22, Apple unveiled the new major update of the iPhone's operating system, iOS 14.

Who says new OS version, says new features. A rule that Apple has not deviated from with iOS 14. And if the Cupertino firm started its conference by presenting the new features of the new version of iOS, it only reviewed a small number of new features and options. Here are the five main changes introduced by iOS 14 :

Other default apps

With iOS 14, Apple is opening up a little bit to the competition by allowing its users to change the default email application and web browser, namely Mail and Safari, apps made in Apple. An important policy change for the Californian firm.

At startup, users should thus be able to choose which application from which publisher they wish to use. An approach that follows the logic imposed on Microsoft with Windows and Google with Android ...

Widgets are coming to the iPhone

The future version of iOS will allow users to further customize their home screen with the introduction of widgets. These are small shortcuts that allow users to control various applications directly from the home screen, tools that have long been popular and adopted by Android users.

iOS 14 also introduces the possibility of arranging different applications according to their usefulness (games, messages, tools, etc.). Thanks to the App Library, users will be able to more easily find the app they are looking for according to their category.

App Clips

The Californian company introduces a very interesting new feature with iOS 14; App Clips. The latter allows to use the services of an application without having to install it beforehand.

It will even be possible to order a meal, pay for a parking lot or make an appointment without having the app on their iPhone and without registering, since users will be able to use their Apple account to do so.

An instant translation app

iOS 14 will introduce a new instant translation application that will support 11 languages, including English and French. Thanks to its split screen, it will allow instant translation of conversations between two people who do not speak the same language, and everyone will be able to see the translation of the conversation in real time. The icing on the cake is that the application will also work in offline mode.

 Picture-in-Picture

With the new version of iOS, users will be able to continue watching a video or movie on Apple TV+ in a reduced window while surfing another application, replying to a message or other.

A feature that Netflix subscribers have been familiar with for a long time.
