Goran Marby has resigned as ICANN President

The position of President and CEO of ICANN is now unfilled. The resignation of Goran Marby, who held the position for 6 years, was approved by the Board on 22 December 2022 in Los Angeles.

During his time at ICANN, he has made a number of achievements, including :
- Leading ICANN through the global COVID-19 pandemic during which there was no roadmap,
- Strengthening and evolving the organisational culture of the ICANN org, 
- Creating the Operational Design Phase : a mechanism to conduct an evaluation of the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO) Council's policy recommendations to provide the Board with information relevant to its deliberations on approval of those recommendations,
- Promoting efforts to monitor and mitigate threats to the security of the DNS,
- Working with governments around the world to protect ICANN and gain the independence necessary to develop policy,
- Creating initiatives to provide better access to the Internet for users around the world.

 

 

In order to ensure continuity in the performance of the tasks associated with the vacancy, important decisions were made by the Board :
- Sally Costerton, ICANN's Senior Advisor to the President and Senior Vice President, has been appointed Acting President and CEO,
- Göran Marby has been elected as ICANN's advisor until 23 May 2024.
