A distributor of medical diagnostics, Redbird has launched a daily COVID-19 recording application and a symptom tracker to combat the spread of the coronavirus on the African continent, Itnewsafrica informs us.

Accessible as a browser-based application via covid19.redbird.co, Redbird's COVID-19 registration application is a way for individuals to self-report their symptoms without the need to visit a health care facility, thus contributing to social distancing.

The solution will allow public health officials in Ghana to see a real-time map of where patients self-report their symptoms in order to directly track high-risk patients. This provides them with a digital alternative to overburdened hotlines for triage and follow-up.

Through this platform, Redbird provides hospitals with digital record keeping and the ability to prevent unnecessary patients from coming to the hospital and putting themselves and others at risk.

"These are challenging times around the world, but we are also seeing an incredible validation of everything we have built at Redbird and we are not letting this slide. With limited testing resources, it's very important to understand where the risk is and how to reach those at risk. We've sought to support public health with the COVID-19 daily data and recording application and the symptom tracker are an example of this," says Patrick Beattie, CEO and co-founder pf Redbird.

Currently, the application works in the United States and Ghana, but Redbird plans to roll out the solution in Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa.
