Cameroon : Promotional campaign for the .cm domain name at 2000 FCFA/year from July 1st to October 1st 2020
For many Cameroonians, it is perhaps the moment to buy a .cm domain name. From July 01, 2020 to October 01, 2020, for every Cameroonian citizen, the annual cost of registration of the Cameroonian top level domain name is set at two thousand (2000) F.CFA all taxes included. This is a decision of the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Minette Libom Li Likeng, dated June 22, 2020, which indicates this.
It should be noted that the costs of domain names in .cm have decreased by nearly 70% between 2009 and 2015. The costs of registering domain names went from 131,000 F.Cfa to 23,850 F.Cfa, then from 23,850 F.Cfa to 10,000 F.Cfa and finally from 10,000 F.Cfa to 7,000 F.Cfa, the last cost fixed by the decision N°00000128/Minpostel of May 26, 2015 fixing the annual costs of registering domain names in .cm.
In Cameroon, the ANTIC, a public administrative institution with legal personality and financial autonomy, is in charge of the management of the .Cm domain. Indeed, Article 4 of Decree No. 2019/150 of March 22, 2019 on the organization and operation of ANTIC assigns to it the mission of managing naming and addressing resources.
Accordingly, ANTIC is responsible, among other things, for developing the policy and procedures for registration of ".cm" domain names, hosting, administration of root servers, granting Registrar approval, ".cm".
To date, there are a dozen approved Registrars in Cameroon. These include MTN Cameroon, Camtel, Creolink, GlobexCam, C@moo, InfoGénie, Prosygma cameroun, Netcom, Htt Telecom, Matrix Telecoms, IccSoft, WorldVoice.
