WHATSAPP MAY SOON OFFER THE CALLS ON THE WEB VERSION
WhatsApp is best known for its mobile application, but the service is not limited to this platform alone. It is possible to enjoy it on your computer through your browser.
WhatsApp Web can be convenient in many cases, but it also suffers from a number of limitations, and it is far from offering as many features as the mobile application. Among the options it lacks the most are, of course, audio or video calls.
So far, only mobile applications offer them.
WhatsApp Web may soon be able to offer
But this could change soon, at least according to the discovery made by our WABetaInfo colleagues.
While rummaging through the new version of the web client, they discovered a new function under development, a function that simply aims to make audio and video calls accessible from our browser.
However, be careful, because according to the confidences of our colleagues, this function is still far from being available to everyone. It is indeed in beta and it will probably take a while before it arrives here.
However, the shared catches give us a good idea of what lies ahead.
A feature available in beta
In case of an incoming call, for example, a pop-up window will open with controls allowing us to pick up the call or avoid it. If we opt for the first choice, then the voice of the person we are calling will be heard over the speakers of our computer and we will only have to converse with them. And of course, if it's a video call, then his or her paper clip will also appear on the screen.
In the same way, when this function is deployed, we will find buttons on the web version of the service that will allow us to initiate an audio or video call with the people of our choice. Note that this function will not be limited to a particular individual and should eventually be extended to group discussions.
However, WhatsApp has not made any announcements at this time, so it is best not to get too excited. The feature is only available in beta and there is no indication that it will be deployed on the consumer version of the web application.
