The subsidiary in Cameroon of the Chinese telecom equipment Huawei signed on 21 April 2021, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the African Institute of Informatics (IAI) and IFTIC-Sup. The ceremony took place in the presence of Armand Claude Abanda, the representative-resident of IAI Cameroon, who is also the chairman of the board of directors of IFTIC-Sup, a private institute of higher education specializing in ICT. During his speech, Mr. Abanda thanked Huawei Cameroon for the opportunity offered to IAI and IFTIC-Sup, which will contribute to the transfer of skills to Cameroonian youth.

"As a foreign company, Huawei Cameroon's philosophy is to participate and accompany the government's strategy in the transfer of ICT know-how to young students, so that they are more competent on the international job market; to meet the demand of employers of large companies; and to offer opportunities for self-employment as start-ups," said in his speech the General Manager of Huawei Cameroon, Du Yin. He added: "Huawei ICT Academy is meant to open a door to the world of high technology for students who are thirsty for knowledge. We will work with the six institutions in Cameroon to provide the country with ICT talent and make it more competitive in this field in Africa." 

Indeed, thanks to this MoU, IAI and IFTIC-Sup officially become the 5th and 6th higher education institute in Cameroon, partners of the Huawei ICT Academy. Before the two schools mentioned above, the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Postes, des Télécommunications et des Tic (Sup'ptic); the Ecole Nationale Supérieure Polytechnique (ENSP) of the University of Yaoundé I; the Institut Universitaire de la Côte (IUC) and the University of Douala had already joined the Huawei ICT Academy ecosystem.  

Officially launched in Cameroon in 2018, the Huawei ICT Academy aims to certify teachers, so that they can in turn provide certification courses to students in partner schools and universities. Through this programme, Huawei intends to create an ICT talent ecosystem by transferring its know-how to young Cameroonian students, so that they are competent and more competitive on the job market, both nationally and internationally.

To date, says the Chinese telecom firm, the Huawei ICT Academy has already certified 83 Cameroonian students in ICT, while more than 1,000 students and teachers in the country have participated in training provided under this program implemented in more than 300 universities worldwide, allowing to train more than 10,000 students each year.
