Technology: LG unveils four new models for its "featherweight" line of computers, with better batteries for a lighter weight and improved performance. 

More than four years ago now, LG introduced its Gram laptop. As the name suggests, the goal was to have a notebook with a light weight. As LG unveils its Gram 2020 range, we discover that it has been extended to four models, from 14 to 17 inches, and a 2-in-1 system. While keeping the slim shape that made its reputation, the range features several improvements, justifying its high price, which hasn't changed either. 

Improvements for an ever-increasing price

Somehow, LG has managed to incorporate larger batteries without increasing the weight - less than 1.4 kg, including for the 17-inch. Both the 15-inch and 17-inch models have an 80 W battery, giving 18.5 and 17 hours of battery life respectively. The 14-inch version contains a slightly smaller 72W battery, but the display is smaller, so battery life is not affected - the classic 18.5 hours and 20.5 hours for the 2-in-1.

The new Gram models are the first notebooks to feature the 10th generation of Intel Core processors. The 14- and 15-inch models feature an i5-1035G7, the 2-in-1 a power-saving i7-10510U, and the 17-inch a more powerful i7-1065G7. The 17-inch and 2-in-1 also feature 16 Gb of RAM and 1TB of SSD storage, while the other models start with 8 Gb of RAM and 256 Gb of SSD. Screen resolutions are 2560 x 1600 for the 17-inch, and 1920 x 1080 for the other models, with the 2-in-1 including a touch screen equipped with Gorilla Glass technology.

Add to this the seven successful MIL-STD-810 durability tests, including protection against shock, vibration, dust and temperature extremes, and it's easy to see why LG sets the price so high. In fact, the starting price for the 14-inch is $1,200. For a 15-inch, add another $100. The 2-in-1 starts at $1,600 for a 14-inch, while the base 17-inch starts at a record $1,850.
