Launch of My Digital World in Cameroon

The Meta group, which owns the Facebook network, announced a few days ago the launch of "My Digital World" in Cameroon. The group aims to train nearly 4,000 participants in the use of digital technology with the support of entities such as Digital Access and Positive Youths Africa, which work to promote digital technology.

This announcement comes after the experimental phase that was conducted in Cameroon in 2021. Basically, "My Digital World" is a digital literacy programme aimed at educating Internet users on the use of social networks. The aim is to teach them to use virtual platforms responsibly, respecting human rights and taking into account their personal safety.

The programme originates from the Digital Literacy Forum initiated by the Meta group. First posted on Meta's official Facebook page, the forum highlighted the importance of popularising digital literacy in order to build a culture of digital citizenship.

According to Phil Oduor, Meta Policy Programme Manager in sub-Saharan Africa, it is a set of training modules "that help participants acquire concrete skills such as protecting personal information, identifying reliable sources of information, understanding topics subject to misinformation, and validating non-harmful online relationships.

This programme is available free of charge in several countries in North Africa and sub-Saharan Africa (South Africa, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Senegal, etc.) and will gradually be extended throughout the African continent.
