Mali has embarked on an ambitious digital transformation
transformation, which is reflected in a host of projects. The aim is to modernise public administration and improve access to public services with a view to stimulating economic development.

The main areas of digitalisation underway in Mali

Administration
Public services are being put online, taxes are being paid online, electronic document management platforms are being set up, and mobile applications are being developed to make it easier for citizens to access public services.

Digital infrastructure
In terms of digital infrastructure, the focus has been on
Deployment of fibre optics: the network has been extended to improve connectivity in rural and urban areas,
Building data centres: the government has increased data storage and processing capacity,
Improving Internet access: the number of public access points has increased and subscription costs have been reduced.

Education 
In the education sector, we can mention: the integration of ICTs into school

Agriculture 
As far as digital agriculture is concerned, there are two points to note:
- The introduction of geographic information systems (GIS): these will improve the management of farmland and crops,
- The development of mobile applications for farmers to facilitate access to information, markets and financing.

The challenges ahead
Despite the progress made, digitisation in Mali still faces a number of financial and technical challenges. The planned investments require the mobilisation of substantial resources, which means that major funding will have to be sought. In addition, data security needs to be looked at in depth, by putting in place a policy to protect personal data and combat cybercrime.
