As a result of the Covid 19 pandemic, more than 1.5 billion students around the world are affected by educational institution closures due to the Covid 19 epidemic. Huawei, which has signed agreements with Cameroon, enables thousands of students to benefit from distance learning courses.

In 2018, on the sidelines of the Beijing Summit of the Sino-African Forum, Mr. Alamine Ousmane Mey, Representative of H.E. Mr. Paul BIYA, President of the Republic of Cameroon, Minister of Economy, Planning and Land Management received Mr. CAO Jibin, the Senior Vice President of the HUAWEI Group on behalf of the Head of State. At the end of the meeting, the Government of Cameroon, represented by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Lejeune Mbella Mbella, and on the HUAWEI side, Mr DU Yin, Director General of HUAWEI Cameroon, signed the STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT IN THE FIELD OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES in the presence of Mr Alamine Ousmane Mey and Mr CAO Jibin.

This agreement now enables four higher education institutions in Cameroon to benefit from online courses. According to Mr. Jean Sun, Deputy Director General of HUAWEI Cameroon "Since 2018, within the framework of the "STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT IN THE FIELD OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES" between Cameroon and HUAWEI, we have set up the "HUAWEI ICT Academy" with four (04) excellent universities in Cameroon. These are SUPPTIC, ENSP (University of Yaounde 1), the University of Douala and IUC of Douala ". 

A feat that comes at a time when the Covid-19 pandemic is reducing the mobility of students. For, online distance education is one of the important and effective measures. Fluid communication platforms, appropriate educational resources, and fast and convenient support services will all be key to large-scale online education.  Huawei's programme is called "Learn On".

The "LEARN-ON" programme includes the following important points:

More than 130 online Mooc online training resources will be available free of charge, covering advanced technical areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, 5G and Internet of Things (IoT).

More than 100 online trainers (DTCs) will be provided from April to December, and more than 1,500 teachers are expected to be trained.

"About 1,000 students have participated in the training and dozens of teachers have passed the Huawei ICT Academy certification, which allows them to teach their students themselves.    Added Mr. Jean Sun.

A figure that is expected to grow (50,000 students are expected to be trained through online self-learning), given the readiness of the Ministry of Higher Education to multiply this type of experience through the implementation of virtual campuses and lecture halls.
