Discovering Omeife, Africa's first humanoid robot

At GITEX, the technology startup event held from 10 to 14 October 2022 in Dubai, Omeife, a humanoid robot, was revealed to the world.

Omeife is an African humanoid female, one meter eighty, who has the ability to speak eight languages, including French, English, Arabic, Afrikaans, Igbo, Kiswahili, Pidgin. She has the ability to hold a conversation with the native accent corresponding to the language spoken and the related gestures.

She is also able to detect faces, facial expressions, identify objects and determine their characteristics (size, shape, geographical position). It has a good knowledge of the ground level and is able to move on rough surfaces.

With its memorisation ability, it is a source of instruction in several areas and is able to engage in social interaction independently. This robot is designed entirely in Nigeria, in the STEM Focus laboratory, owned by Chuks Ekwueme, a young Nigerian entrepreneur.

STEM Focus is a center for research, development and deployment of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), artificial intelligence and next generation robotics. It is one of the subsidiaries of the Uniccon Group of Companies founded in 2020.

Chuks Ekwueme, the chairman of Uniccon Group, has previous experience in technology, having developed several solutions such as SmartMedicare, SmartWorks, SmartFree, Payfocuss and CloudFocus. In April 2022, he launched Lossless Security, an application that helps fighting cybercrime.
